Under Joseph’s direction, Skender has become one of the largest general contractors in the country with revenues of over $425 million. He is the driving force behind establishing the entrepreneurial culture, setting a long-term vision, and ensuring stable growth through strategic market diversification. An avid supporter of charitable and community organizations, Joseph co-created Skender Foundation, a private foundation that supports numerous education and wellness causes. He is a member of The Executives’ Club of Chicago and Economic Club of Chicago, as well as a trustee at DePaul University. Since joining the firm in 1989, Mark has played an integral role in the development of the organization’s long-term vision, strategic direction, organizational design, and values. He oversees the firm’s operations and is responsible for innovating the way Skender Construction delivers projects. As a pioneer in Chicago’s Lean construction movement, Mark helped create and implement the vision for Skender’s industry-leading approach to Lean project delivery. Mark is a board member of the Illinois Housing Council and sits on the board of trustees for Frances Xavier Warde Schools in Chicago. Since joining Skender in 2005, Justin has led companywide strategic growth initiatives, helping to expand market sector expertise and annual revenues, as well as working across all business functions to create sustainable value for the firm and its clients. He serves as an active member of The Economic Club of Chicago, Young Presidents’ Organization, HFS Chicago Scholars, and the Chicago Commercial Real Estate Awards Committee, benefitting the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Jerry joined Skender Construction in 2003. He is responsible for managing a range of administrative activities, including preparation of financial statements, audits, and tax reports. He supervises the accounting department and oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and human resources. Jerry received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from University of Illinois in Chicago, has served in the United States Army, and is a member of the Construction Financial Management Association.

As an executive and strategic leader of Skender, Afshan leverages his 25 years of construction experience to oversee business operations and collaborate on strategic planning. A founding member of the Lean Construction Institute Chicago Community of Practice, Afshan is a frequent speaker and writer on the subject, and also played an integral role in developing Skender’s Lean project delivery. A thought leader and top construction technologist, Kevin Bredeson brings his vision for a technology-rich building industry future to Skender. He is responsible for strategic oversight and direction of Skender’s complete technology footprint. Kevin has more than a decade’s experience leading technology initiatives for some of the world’s top construction companies, including Suffolk Construction, Pepper Construction, and Gilbane Building Company: Nos. 26, 64 and 13, respectively, on the ENR 400. His passion for design and construction technologies and deep background applying them to real-world building projects create an environment of trust and confidence among a project’s many stakeholders. The construction industry recognizes Dan as a veteran superintendent who has managed some of the largest and most complex projects in Chicago. Dan joined Skender Construction in 2006 and has played an instrumental role in building collaborative teams, igniting a spirit of camaraderie on our jobsites. He has managed projects for Motorola Mobility, Nokia, Sidley Austin LLP, CVS Caremark, UBS, and other esteemed clients.

Tim leads Skender’s team of architects and designers—bringing his passion for integrating the design and construction process to the firm’s clients. In his former position of Chicago office director at CannonDesign, he was the youngest office leader in the history of the century-old firm. Throughout his decade there, Tim oversaw a team of more than 200 architecture, engineering, and planning experts. He also led its City Design practice, a national group focused on helping cities around the world grow and prosper. Having lived in Abu Dhabi, rural India and major American cities like New York and Chicago, Tim brings a unique, global perspective to his design work. He is an advocate for smart growth and sustainable development, working with leaders at the intersection of urban planning, public health, and education. Tim earned a Master of Architecture with a specialization in urban development and infill from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and undergraduate degrees in fine arts and economics from Colgate University. Clay joined Skender Construction in 2006, and has managed millions of square feet of interior tenant improvement projects throughout Chicago. A client-centric and results-oriented leader, Clay is adept in developing comprehensive preconstruction plans to achieve clients’ specialized project goals. He has managed countless projects in the corporate, nonprofit, and high-tech market sectors—among others. Some of Clay’s notable projects include the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, Fresenius Kabi, Nokia, and ACCO Brands’ corporate headquarters. As an industry thought leader, Clay is frequently cited in commercial real estate news media about tenant interior construction topics, and is often a featured speaker and writer on related trends. Jeff’s vast construction knowledge starts at the ground level, as he spent a portion of his career overseeing site and land development work for energy, municipal, healthcare, and other private-sector clients. Working as a trusted advisor, Dan has a talent for understanding clients’ perspectives and translating their real estate needs into construction solutions. Dan is co-chair of the Chicago Advisory Board for Little Kids Rock and former president of the CoreNet Chicago Chapter. In 2014, he was named to Building Design+Construction‘s “40 Under 40” class. In addition to marketing, Todd is an award-winning, bestselling author and editor of American history books and serves on the editorial board of Illinois Real Estate Journal. Skender Foundation was built on the belief that everyone should have access to tools that help people make prosperous life decisions.

Since its 2012 inception, Skender Foundation has contributed more than $2,300,000 to deserving organizations impacting education and wellness. Hosting two signature events in downtown Chicago each year, the foundation raised funds for more than 100 charitable organizations in 2017. Skender Foundation also includes the Builders’ Board, a group of next-generation leaders working to inspire positive and sustainable change in the community.
