Safety Manager

Skender is currently seeking a Safety Manager to join our talented group of employees.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and promote Skender's policies and procedures with respect to safety, quality control, production, and drug free workplace.
  • Conduct environmental, health, and safety observations on Skender projects to assure compliance with OSHA and Skender safety measures, contract documents, and accepted industry quality standards.
  • Conduct project assessments when the presence of hazardous material may be indicated; assist in the development of a plan to minimize the hazard in compliance with all governmental requirements.
  • Evaluate hazardous conditions and recommend engineering controls, administrative controls, and/or personal protective equipment.
  • Obtain/maintain knowledge of industry quality standards and practices as they may relate to Skender through continued education.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards and administrative practices as they relate to SPQs as a means of continued education.
  • Understand and promote Lean philosophy and practices as they relate to Skender's safety program.
  • Review/develop site specific safety plans with project teams to assure compliance with company safety protocols.
  • Immediately notify the Skender project team and subcontractors of any variances noted and assure that proper corrective action is taken immediately.
  • Perform and assist with accident investigations; ensure that processes take necessary corrective action to prevent future incidents. Communicate recommendations to all concerned parties promptly.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, engineering, construction management, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in progressively responsible safety, quality, or production position, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings/specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills and extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety law.
  • Must be able to effectively present material and train employees in a group setting.
