Construction Tops Out at New Westfield Police Department Headquarters

Skender, serving as general contractor, along with developer Garmong, has topped out construction on the new Westfield Police Department headquarters, a $35 million facility designed to support the city’s continued growth and evolving public safety needs. The new headquarters—the result of a public-private partnership—is being built on an 11.7-acre site along Grand Park Boulevard, just north of 181st Street in Westfield, Indiana.

The approximately 50,000-square-foot facility will replace the city’s existing Westfield Public Safety Building at State Road 32 and Dartown Road, which no longer meets modern operational and security requirements. Designed by architect Dewberry as a future-ready complex, the new headquarters will support current staffing needs while allowing for long-term expansion of up to 80,000 square feet, including a planned 30,000-square-foot addition over the next 15 to 20 years.

The building consolidates the Westfield Police Department and the City’s Informatics Department, enhancing coordination across public safety and technology functions. The design emphasizes transparency, officer wellness and community engagement, with features including collaborative workspaces, wellness and decompression areas, a fortified emergency operations center and a dedicated community training and event space.

Strategically located near Grand Park, Westfield High School and key commercial corridors, the new headquarters is expected to improve response times while increasing police visibility and accessibility within the community.

“Our responsibility is to keep Westfield safe while staying connected to the community we serve,” said Shawn Keen, Westfield Police Chief. “This new headquarters helps us do both, with spaces designed for collaboration, training and engagement.”

Brian Simons, President of Skender’s Indianapolis office, added, “We’ve had a great partnership with the City of Westfield and owner’s representative Veridus Group throughout this project. Reaching this milestone reflects that collaboration and the work our trade partners have put in every day to keep the project on track.”

Construction began in late-2025, with completion anticipated in 2027.
