Skender Construction Offices Awarded LEED Green Building Certification

CHICAGO, Illinois (January, 20, 2011) – Skender Construction announced this week their corporate office has been awarded LEED Silver established by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).  LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the nation’s finest program for design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

“Achieving LEED Silver certification is an exciting accomplishment, we are proud of our team,” said Joseph Skender, President. “Our firm is committed to green building. Successfully implementing sustainable practices in the construction of our corporate office is a great achievement.”

Skender achieved LEED credits in categories of sustainable sites, energy and atmosphere, HVAC, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design process. By incorporating green leadership Skender successfully diverted 96% of construction debris from going to a landfill. That element positively impacted the project itself and the broader community.

“Skender’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO and founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council. “Their project makes a conscious effort to efficiently use natural resources in order to bring an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will benefit generations to come.”

Skender Construction anticipated a LEED Certified office; however in a joint effort between contractor, architect and engineer, the team earned additional creative points and is LEED Silver certified.
